Possible link between rectal cancer and late night eating: Study

It is unlikely that eating late at night will cause rectal cancer. However, late-night eating habits may add to factors that raise the chance of getting rectal cancer over time.

Eating late at night might result in overeating or eating too many high-calorie meals, both of which can contribute to weight gain. Obesity is a proven risk factor for colorectal cancer, especially rectal cancer.

Eating at night may mess with the body’s natural circadian cycle and digestive operations, which can result in digestive problems including constipation, acid reflux, or indigestion. Chronic digestive problems have been linked to a higher risk of colorectal cancer.

Consuming meals late at night, especially one which is rich in carbohydrates or sugar, might raise insulin levels and cause insulin resistance. Chronic insulin resistance has been linked to inflammation, which could promote the development of colorectal cancer.
