5 zinc-rich foods every woman should include in her diet

Consuming foods high in zinc is beneficial to overall wellness, especially for women, as zinc is essential for several body functions, such as immune system performance, wound healing, DNA synthesis and reproductive health. Let’s take a look at some zinc-rich foods every woman should include in her diet.

1. Poultry

Turkey and chicken are excellent sources of zinc, which is necessary for healthy cell development, wound healing and the immune system. Choose skinless, lean poultry slices then bake, roast, or grill them to perfection.

2. Dark Chocolate

For a tiny zinc boost, enjoy a small square of dark chocolate (at least 70% cacao). It’s also an excellent way to  end a meal. Zinc is found in dark chocolate, along with antioxidants like flavonoids that have been linked to a number of health benefits such as better heart and cognitive function.

3. Nuts

Nuts that are high in protein, fiber, healthy fats and zinc include cashews, almonds and pine nuts. Nut zinc boosts immunity and improves healing of wounds.

4. Whole grains

Zinc can be found in whole grains alongside fiber, vitamins and minerals. Whole grains include zinc, which boosts immunity and controls metabolism and hunger.

5. Dairy products

Zinc, calcium and protein—found in dairy products such as cheese and yoghurt—are necessary for strong bones, a healthy immune system and muscular growth. Include small amounts of dairy products in your diet, either low-fat or non-fat, to reduce saturated fat consumption.
