5 common noises that can harm your hearing

Frequent exposure to loud noise at work, when travelling, or for enjoyment is highly harmful to your hearing health. Prolonged or short exposure to an extremely loud noise can damage the inner ear, resulting in hearing loss. Be mindful of and avoid these everyday dangerous loud noises.

Here are 5 common noises that can harm your hearing

1. Sudden Explosions

Although unusual for most people, explosions such as a car backfire or a sonic boom can be extremely loud (sometimes surpassing 140 decibels) and cause severe hearing damage.

2. Festivals and Concerts

Avoid standing near loudspeakers if you’re at a festival or concert. Keep your earplugs with you so you can completely seal your ears. Keep your ears away from harm.

3. Fitness classes

Many personal fitness trainers increase the volume to 80–116 dB, which can cause hearing damage to those who attend. You have two options if you attend group fitness classes: ask the trainer to lower down the volume or wear hearing protection.

 4. Hight audio

Many turn up their earphones or headphones to block out surrounding sounds. The CDC warns that listening to music higher than 60% volume might potentially harm hearing.

5. Home Improvement Equipment

Do you wish to tackle an impending home renovation project? Before you plug in the chainsaw or drill machine, put on earplugs. The machine and chainsaws make sounds that are louder than 90 decibels. Protect yourself before it does further harm.
