Summer Eye Care: Tips for protecting your eyes from UV rays
Taking care of your eyes in the summer is just as essential as it is the rest of the year, but while most people understand how the sun can affect and hurt their skin during the summer, many summer revellers are unaware of (or choose to ignore) the impact the sun can have on their eyes. For those who are not aware, there are two kinds of radiation that you need to protect yourself from: UVA and UVB. Medical professionals point out that UVA rays are more common and penetrate deeper than UVB rays.
Here are tips for protecting your eyes from UV rays
1. Wear good quality glasses
Always wear sunglasses with a big frame that can shield your eyes effectively and reduce the influence of unfiltered UV rays entering. High-quality sunglasses can prevent sunlight from flashing into your eyes.
2. Avoid peak hours
If at all possible, stay out of the sun between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM to protect your eyes from the most harmful UV rays.
3. Stay hydrated
It’s simpler to get dehydrated in hot weather, which might harm your eyes. Severe dehydration impairs the body’s ability to produce tears, which can result in “dry eye” and other vision-related issues. Therefore, in addition to all the other wellness benefits, drinking lots of water every day provides the fluid needed for good eye function.
